Public Notice of Proposed Tuition and Mandatory Fee Increase

Pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated Section 49-7-1603, Tennessee Tech’s Board of Trustees is providing notice of the proposed tuition and mandatory fee increase as an action item on the Board’s Wednesday, April 30, 2025, agenda.

  1. Proposed tuition and mandatory fee increase for academic year 2025-2026:
    1. Undergraduate maintenance proposed fee increase of 4.80%
      1. Part-time rate proposed to increase from $350 per hour to $367 per hour.
      2. Flat rate proposed to increase from $4,995 for students taking 12 or more hours per semester to $5,235 for students taking 12 or more hours per semester.
    2. Graduate maintenance proposed fee increase of 5.00%
      1. Base 10 hours proposed to increase from $550 per hour to $577 per hour.
      2. Over base hours proposed to increase from $110 per hour to $118 per hour.
    3. Program Service Fee proposed fee increase of 5.05%
      1. Program Service Fee proposed to increase from $693 per semester to $728 per semester.
        1. Student Activity Fee – Fitness Center component is proposed to increase from $48 per semester to $68 per semester.
        2. Facilities Fee component proposed to increase from $103 per semester to $118 per semester.
  2. Revenue derived from the tuition and mandatory fee increase will be used:
    1. Undergraduate maintenance
      1. Inflationary cost and costs associated with required match on salary pool.
    2. Graduate maintenance
      1. Inflationary cost and costs associated with required match on salary pool.
    3. Program Service Fee
      1. Facilities Fee Component
        1. Development and renovation of student centric spaces.
      2. Student Activity Fee – Fitness Center Component
        1. Operational costs and renewal and replacement of equipment.
  3. Tennessee Tech University makes every effort to mitigate the effect of the increase on students:
    1. Tennessee Tech's undergraduate and graduate maintenance is comparable to other public universities in Tennessee.
    2. The proposed 4.80% undergraduate maintenance increase is within THEC's established tuition range for academic year 2025-2026.
    3. Cost containments through regular budget reviews and reductions where possible.

    1. Level of State Support
    2. Total cost of attendance
    3. Efforts to mitigate the financial effect on students
  • Additional Factors:
    1. THEC mandatory tuition and fee ranges
    2. Comparison to peer institutions, competitor institutions, other LGIs
    3. Higher Education Price Index
