Cyber Awareness Training
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is here! Follow along each week for tips to learn how you can be safer online. Each week we will focus on one area, in alignment to CISA, to discuss how you can make your online presence and devices more secure.
More resources can be found at CISA's page for CAM.
Week 1 (October 1 - 6) Phishing
Phishing emails are very common and can even get sent to your school email. A phishing email is actually a scam email. Often it involves someone trying to impersonate another company, ask for private information, or attempt to get you to click on suspicious links. It is very important that you do not engage with these and report them to your organization or school if possible. Look at the flyer below to find out more ways to identify if you are getting phishing emails!

Week 2 (October 7 - 13) Passwords
Using strong passwords is one of the easiest ways to up your security game. There are a lot of suggestions for making strong passwords, but the number one rule is to make them long! Also try to avoid common passwords such as “password123” or “123456789” as these are easy to guess. Also avoid making all your passwords the same. Check out the flyer below for more information!
Week 3 (October 14 - 20) Multi-Factor Authentication
Another way to make your accounts more secure is to enable multi-factor authentication. This adds an extra layer of security to your account by using a second device to verify a log in. This may be inputting a security code or scanning a biometric. This will add an additional step to log in, but it adds an additional layer of protection against those trying to gain access to your accounts! Reference the flyer below to get more information on how to activate multi-factor authentication.
Week 3 (October 14 - 20) Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week
This week is National Cyber Career Week! Come join CEROC at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN. We are going to be bringing our mobile classroom that we often use for the Tennessee GenCyber On Wheels program. Join us in learning more about different cybersecurity careers or visit cyberseek.org to learn more!

Week 4 (October 21 - 27) Software Updates
The step you can take the most often to make your devices more secure is to install any and all software updates for devices or apps. These app updates can be annoying sometimes to install, however they are actually very important. While these may fine tune the software, they will also have security updates and fix known errors. Check out the flyer to see more about how and why you need to enable these!
