Genny graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Specialist in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, May 2019; a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology and Counselor Education, 2015; and, in 2010 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-6).

Genny has family history at Tennessee Tech, as her great grandfather was T.W. Kittrell who served as the Bursar at Tech from 1918 to 1967; Kittrell Hall is named in his honor.
