About
Dr. Wendy Mullen, Professor of Music, is Music Theatre and Vocal Coordinator at Tennessee Technological University. The versatile soprano has performed nationally and internationally. Some of her favorite opera credits include Marie in The Bartered Bride, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte, and the title role in Suor Angelica. She has been a featured soloist with the Knoxville Symphony, Knoxville Chamber Orchestra, Johnson City Symphony, and the Macon Symphony. Dr. Mullen is well-versed in musical theatre styles, having performed several leading roles, directed a thriving scenes program for fifteen years, and music directed 14 productions. As a researcher, Dr. Mullen focuses upon the unusual artistic life of the prisoners in the WWII concentration camp of Terezín and specifically the vocal compositions of Viktor Ullmann. In addition, Dr. Mullen is an accomplished violist who has been a member of numerous professional orchestras. An active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she has held positions at the chapter, regional and national levels. She served as Vocal Coordinator, Interim Chair, and Provost Fellow at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia, and the Director of the School of Music at Tennessee Tech. A native of Kingsport, Tennessee, Dr. Mullen received her Doctorate in Voice Performance at Arizona State University and her Master and Bachelor of Music degrees in Voice Performance from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
