BS/MS Fast Track Program
The CEE Fast-track MS program is designed to enable Tennessee Tech CEE undergraduates to accumulate up to six credit hours of graduate coursework while still pursuing their undergraduate degree and to transition to the graduate program with anticipated accelerated completion. Up to six hours of graduate coursework, exclusive of directed study, taken during the student's senior year can be used to satisfy both undergraduate and graduate degree requirements ("double counted"). These courses must be taken at Tennessee Tech University and must be approved as appropriate substitutions in the undergraduate curriculum for senior CEE electives.
In order to remain in the Fast-track program, the student must demonstrate ongoing scholarship by continuing to meet the GPA admission requirements during the semester that the student enrolls in the first of his/her graduate courses. The student must earn a minimum grade of "B" in the graduate courses in order to apply them to the M.S. program of study and to continue in the Fast-track option. Additionally, Fast-track students will be integrated into CEE research while enrolled as an undergraduate with the expectation that this research will be coordinated with their future thesis research. CEE Fast-track M.S. students that graduate with their B.S. in the Spring semester can be expected to complete their M.S. requirements at the end of the Summer term of the following calendar year.
BS/MS Fast-track Program Requirements
Participation in the CEE Fast-track program does not change the requirements for either the undergraduate or the graduate degree.
Application Requirements
Students admitted to the CEE Fast-track MS program will meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate Tennessee Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering student with junior or senior standing and have completed at least 90 credit hours of course work toward a bachelor's degree by the start of the Fast-track MS program.
- Have an overall GPA of at least 3.25 and a GPA for CEE courses of at least 3.5.
- Be recommended by a CEE faculty mentor.
All requirements for admission to graduate school must be met upon graduation.
Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the graduate program. In addition to the requirements for admission to the CEE Fast-track MS program, all requirements for admission to the CEE graduate program must be met upon graduation. These requirements can be found in the Tennessee Tech Graduate Catalog.
Request for Graduate Course for Undergraduate Credit
Students who are selected for the Fast-track MS program will need to fill out a Senior Request for Graduate Course for Undergraduate Credit form for the six hours of dual-use credits they will be taking their senior year. Please use the Request for Undergraduate or Graduate Credit for for taking a graduate level course for undergraduate or graduate credit.
