Managing Gradebook Views

Managing the Gradebook Views

Depending on the type of gradebook you have setup and the grade scheme you use, you have different options available. You can also update the view for both the Managing Users (Instructors, TA-Full, TA-Graders) and the Student View.

  1. Go to Grades
  2. Select Settings

There are several tabs, the two we will look at are the Personal Display Options and the Org Unit Display Options tabs.

Personal Display Options (Managing View)

  1. Under User Details – select options that you want to view beside the student’s name in the gradebook.
    1. Username
    2. Org Defined ID (T#) with the student’s name.
  2. Under Grade Details – select what you would like to view in the gradebook associated with the grade items.
    1. Points grade
    2. Weighted grade (only visible for Weighted grading systems)
    3. Grade scheme symbol
    4. Grade scheme color
  3. Number of characters to display for text items – only relevant if you use text items. Can only be 0-50 characters.
  4. Number of columns before user details are repeated – this can be helpful if you have a lot of grade items.
  5. Number of users before column header repeats – this can be helpful if you have a large class.
  6. Repeat Final Grades – select if you would like to see the Final Calculated Grade column and/or the Adjusted Final Grade column repeated at the beginning of the gradebook. This is especially helpful at the end of a term or if you plan to keep your final grade updated all semester.
  7. Start Page – the default start page when you select the Grades link is the Enter Grades area, but you can select other options if you like.

Org Unit Display Options (Student View, mostly)

There is one Managing View option on this tab.

  1. Managing View Display Options – Decimals Displayed. This allows you to choose the number of decimals to display.
NOTE: If you choose 0 and there is a grade with a decimal, it will round the grade in the Grades view. If you choose this for the Managing View or Student View, be aware that when the final grade is being calculated, it will use the decimal grade.
  2. Student View Display Options
    1. Grade Details – this is what the student will see when they view their grade.
      1. Points grade – they will see the points they earned and the total points for the grade. For example: 87/100
      2. Weighted grade – (only available for weighted grade systems) – shows the student the weighted grade earned. This can be confusing to a student if they think they are look at their grade. A quiz can be out of 100 points, but the weight can be 10%. A student would see the 10% scale.
  • Grade scheme symbol – if using the default scheme, this shows a percentage numeric grade. If using a letter grade scheme, it will show the letter grade associated with the numeric point grade earned.
  1. Grade scheme color – this shows the color associated with the grade range or letter grade from the grade scheme.
  1. Decimals Displayed – you can select the number of decimals to show the students.
NOTE: If you choose 0 and there is a grade with a decimal, it will round the grade in the Grades view. If you choose this for the Managing View or Student View, be aware that when the final grade is being calculated, it will use the decimal grade.
  2. Characters Displayed - only relevant if you use text items. Can only be 0-50 characters.
  3. Final Grade Calculation – you can choose if you would like to display how the final grade is calculated to users.
