This is the 21st annual Celebration of Craft, which features live music, craft demonstrations, silent art auction, kids’ hands-on activities, food, and art sales. The Appalachian Center for Craft will have activities for everyone at the Celebration of Craft, set for Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its campus in Smithville.

This is the 21st annual Celebration of Craft, which features live music, craft demonstrations, painting, silent art auction, kids’ hands-on activities, food, and art sales.

"Celebration is one of our favorite times of year at the Craft Center,” said Gail Gentry, program manager at the Craft Center. “It allows us to share our passion for everything craft and art related from creating and exploring to discussing and collecting. This event has activities for the entire family!"

Live music includes bluegrass with the Ballinger Family Band, classic rock and blues with the band Spoonful, African dance and drums and flamenco dance, presented by the Global Education Center.

There will be a number of demonstrations, from blacksmithing, ceramics, fibers, glass blowing, metal and wood, along with a silent auction on artwork donated by regional artists with the funds benefitting educational art outreach programming.

Kids’ activities include woven bracelets, glass jewelry, paper marbling, stained glass windows and wooden puzzles. Students from the school of art, craft and design’s art education program will lead these activities.

Craft Center alumni and artists in the student visual art society will have artwork on sale and there will be a 25 percent discount on items for sale in the retail sales gallery.

Specialty sandwiches, salads, soups and baked goods, among other food items, will also be available.

Visiting the Craft Center is free and open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
