Tennessee Tech University has long been known for its world-class academic programs, but now the university is also earning recognition as a workplace.

Tech was named to the 2025 “Best Places to Work in Tennessee” list by Best Companies Group and the Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

The 2025 honorees represent a wide array of industries and include employers that, according to organizers, “have set new standards for fostering exceptional work environments.”

The selection process for winners relied on detailed employee surveys and considered key factors such as corporate culture, training and development opportunities, salary and benefits and overall employee satisfaction.

“Tennessee Tech University’s greatest asset has always been our people,” said Tech President Phil Oldham. “We’re proud to be a community that invests in our employees, that fosters a sense of mutual care and support and that strives for excellence in all things. We appreciate Best Companies Group and Tennessee SHRM for this honor and look forward to continuing to provide a positive, supportive workplace for employees that leads to exceptional educational experiences for our students.”

Tech’s recognition as a best place to work in Tennessee comes as the university has recently acted on a compensation plan that boosted investments in employee salary packages and restructured pay scales for improved market competitiveness.

The university offers its employees a comprehensive set of benefits, ranging from medical, dental and vision plans, to tuition reimbursement, a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a generous paid vacation policy and discounted goods and services across the Upper Cumberland from Tech’s Golden Eagle Perks Partners.

“The Office of Human Resources at Tennessee Tech is deeply gratified by this recognition,” said Kevin Vedder, Tech’s associate vice president of human resources. “Our dedicated team of professionals works every day to attract, develop, serve and retain exceptional faculty and staff. We appreciate the tools and support that university leadership has given us to do exactly that. This award is truly a shared success among all of us who call Tennessee Tech home.”

Jaime Raul Zepeda, executive vice president of Best Companies Group, noted that all 2025 honorees “have shown unwavering commitment to their employees’ satisfaction and growth.”

Best Companies Group will host a virtual event in February 2025 to celebrate the awardees.
