Light will be joined in his performance by Paul Thurmond, piano, and Steven Darling, euphonium.
In addition to other works, the Rhapsody for Tuba by Tech Professor of Composition Gregory Danner and the world premiere composition for solo euphonium and solo tuba by Tech composition graduate and Cookeville native, Benjamin McMillan, will be performed.
Preston Light is currently a doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Timothy Northcut. Previously, Light earned his master s degree in performance at CCM, and his undergraduate degree in music education at Tech.
An active freelancer, Light has performed with many groups in the midwest region including the Cincinnati Ballet, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Opera Project Columbus, and was recently a featured performer at The United States Army Band Pershing s Own tuba euphonium workshop this February.
Recently, Light won the Mock Band Competition at the International Tuba Euphonium Association Conference held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he was also a finalist in the Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestra Competition, and a semi-finalist in the Artist Solo Tuba and Quartet competitions. Last summer, he was a fellow at the Brevard Music Center, where he won the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition, earning a full scholarship to come back to Brevard in summer 2017.
Outside of performing, Light is an active educator in the Cincinnati area, working with middle and high school low brass students.
