Bachelor’s in Design Studies
The School of Human Ecology offers two undergraduate degree concentration programs in Design Studies: Architecture and Interior Design, and Fashion Merchandising and Design.
Architecture and Interior Design focuses on residential design, light frame construction and commercial design. This program of study explores the interior environment and its relation to psychosocial needs, physical needs, and mental well-being of individuals and families. Graduates pursue careers in: interior space planning, renovation/remodeling, computer aided drafting, rendering and media production, historic housing and finishing preservation, facility management and product representatives.
Fashion Merchandising and Design focuses on the design, production, distribution and selection of consumer products. This program of study focuses on the practical and theoretical applications of design as it relates to fashion, including elements of color theory, functional design, sustainability, and styling based on aesthetic. Career opportunities include: retail management, merchandise buyer, sales representative, shopper/stylist, fashion coordinator, textile researcher, fashion designer, journalism, public relations and others.
