The Department of Mathematics takes pride in being able to deliver a solid education to our undergraduate math majors with optional concentrations in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Actuarial Science, and Statistics and Data Science. Also, our graduate program is going strong with plans for continued growth. Alumni from the Department include insurance industry executives, software engineers, data scientists, teachers, professors, lawyers, financial professionals, and administrators in the defense industry. Mathematics Department Funding Opportunities
For Incoming Mathematics Students (Freshmen and Transfer):
The Leonard Dunavin Mathematics Scholarship provides up to $350 for the first year of study for an incoming freshman mathematics major from the Upper Cumberland area.
The Angelo and Jennette Volpe Scholarship provides $1000 for the first year of study to an incoming freshman majoring in mathematics who needs financial assistance. Applicants must have an ACT Math score of at least 24. The determination of a student’s financial need is made based upon the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Richard P. Savage Sr. Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate mathematics major with a QPA of at least 3.0. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are eligible for the Richard P. Savage Sr. Scholarship.
The Stonecipher Mathematics Scholarship provides up to $1000 a year and can be renewed for up to three additional years provided the student continues as a mathematics major and maintains a QPA of at least 3.0 in all mathematics courses taken and an overall QPA of at least 3.0. Incoming mathematics majors are eligible.
For Current Tennessee Tech Mathematics Students:
The Richard P. Savage Sr. Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate mathematics major with a QPA of at least 3.0. All undergraduate mathematics majors are eligible.
The Dr. S. A. Patil and Mrs. Vijayalaxmi Patil Scholarship is awarded to a full-time mathematics major who has successfully completed Math 3400. The recipient of this scholarship must have and maintain a QPA of at least 3.0.
The Grateful Heart Mathematics Scholarship is available to any full-time undergraduate mathematics major in good standing who has successfully completed Math 3400. Preference will be given to eligible candidates from the Upper Cumberland area.
The Stanley Erwin M.D. Scholarship is available to a full-time undergraduate mathematics major with a QPA of at least 3.6 who has completed or is enrolled in Math 3400.
Other Funding Opportunities
Give directly to the Math Department for discretionary spending assists to bring in guest speakers, purchase research software for our graduate program, or fund an undergraduate student to present at a conference.
