Community invited to ‘Celebrate <C/S>’ at Tennessee Tech

Celebrate computer science flyerTennessee Tech’s Department of Computer Science welcomes the community to a new event for its graduating students, alumni and anyone else interested in computer science.

“Celebrate <C/S>” will be held April 25 from 6-8 p.m. in Bruner Hall rooms 119 and 228 on the campus of Tennessee Tech, 110 University Dr.

“This is a time to celebrate our computing community,” department chair Gerald Gannod, Ph.D., said. “Spring commencement is near, so we want to recognize and honor our students who are graduating as well as reconnect with our computer science alumni. A lot has changed in our growing department over the past few years, and we want to share our student and faculty successes.”

Among the highlights are new graphic identifiers created by Tennessee Tech graphic design student Rebecca Hahnert, who has worked for the computer science department since January 2022 and will be graduating this spring. Her latest project – portraits of influential computer scientists Alan Turing, Ada Lovelace, Anita Borg, Edsger Dijkstra, Grace Hopper and John von Neumann – will be unveiled during the event. These computer scientists are the namesakes of a new house system within the department.

“Rebecca has done an outstanding job of enhancing the department’s identity and branding,” Gannod said. “We can’t say enough about her talent and creativity, and we are thrilled to present her work to the community.”

Celebrate <C/S> will also include hors d’oeuvres, a string quartet, opportunities to meet computer science students, professors and alumni, and tours of remodeled Bruner Hall.

“We invite the community to meet us and see what’s new in the department,” Gannod said.
