Department History
Tennessee Technological University's (Tech's) Department of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (MET) began in 1956 within the College of Engineering as the Department of Industrial Technology (IT). The current Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) baccalaureate program was conceived from the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT).
The degree name changed from Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology to Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology in Spring 2012, and the department name changed from Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Technology (MIT) to Department of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (MET) in November 2012.
