National First-Generation Celebration Week
Friday, November 4-8, 2024
Each year, on November 8, colleges and universities nationwide celebrate first-generation students, faculty, and staff. This date also marks the approval of the Higher Education Act (HEA) in 1965, pivotal legislation to enhance educational opportunities for underprivileged students. The HEA was designed to ensure equal access to college by providing federal grants and loans and making vital investments in institutions and programs to positively impact the access, increase retention, and graduation of first-generation and low-income students.
