Degree Details

The Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering combines scholarship, research and advanced coursework to offer a comprehensive and competitive master’s degree program to prepare you for advanced projects and opportunities in industry or advanced research in academic institutions. You will receive the strong academic training needed for making significant contributions to solving civil and environmental engineering problems in the 21st-century, and for becoming well-informed, productive members of society dedicated to public service and lifelong learning.

Admissions Requirements

Students seeking admission to the Civil Engineering graduate program are evaluated based on multi-parameter criterion that can include the following:

    1. Undergraduate GPA: at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    2. Letters of Recommendation: three letters of recommendation that demonstrate strong evidence for success in the graduate program
    3. GRE: a score of at least 150 on Quantitative Reasoning; 147 on Verbal Reasoning; and 3.5 on Analytical Writing
    4. Participation in undergraduate research
    5. Post-undergraduate degree professional experience relevant to the planned degree of study
    6. Publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or award-winning presentations in technical conferences
    7. Availability of appropriate faculty to serve as research advisor(s)

Based on the level of satisfaction of the above criterion, the department will either recommend admission to Full Standing, Provisional Standing, or Special Standing, or deny admission. Standing status may be changed to Full Standing after the student satisfies the requirements specified by the department at the time of admission.
