The Doctor of Philosophy degree program in Environmental Sciences emphasizes the solution of complex environmental problems using an interdisciplinary approach. The goal of the program is to prepare students for careers in research, management, government service, teaching and other areas where they can make productive contributions to the solution of environmental problems. The agriculture concentration includes study areas in sustainable and organic farming, applications of technology and engineering, and effects of pesticides and fertilizers on plants, animals and ecosystems. Tennessee Tech has excellent facilities at Shipley Farm and elsewhere to provide a venue for dissertation research projects in Environmental Agriculture.
Admissions Requirements
Students seeking admission to the Environmental Sciences Ph.D. program with a concentration in Agriculture are required to have:

- GRE: a score of at least 300 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE, as well as at least a 3.5 on the analytical writing portion

Applicants who do not fully meet the above requirements may be admitted in Provisional Standing on the basis of a favorable recommendation to the College of Graduate Studies by the appropriate departmental chairperson and the Director of the Environmental Sciences doctoral program.
