Degree Details

The Bachelor of Fine Arts concentration in metals is designed to prepare the student to become a fine artist. The integration of studio and lecture courses in the curriculum as well as activities and enrichment opportunities encourages the skills and concepts essential to the student’s growth as an artist. The metals program offers a comprehensive experience laying the foundation for a career in contemporary metalsmithing. Students are exposed to a broad range of techniques and historical metal work in these classes. The concentration is focused in jewelry, blacksmithing, or hollowware; emphasis is placed on traditional techniques with a contemporary approach. Students design and create solutions for functional and aesthetic problems using progressively more advanced tooling and skills.
