Overview
Tennessee Tech University, located in Cookeville, was founded in 1915 and is the state's premier technological institution, and among the top universities in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. Tech's mission is focused on creating and applying knowledge to expand opportunity and economic competitiveness through education, research and service. Tech is classified as a doctoral university with high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
Economic Impact
In 2017-2018, Tennessee Tech contributed more than $1.2 billion to the Tennessee economy and supports, directly and indirectly, nearly 12,000 jobs across the state.
Academic Programs
Tech offers more than 200 programs of study — from accounting to zoology and everything in between — across eight academic colleges and schools, awarding bachelor's, master's, education specialist (Ed.S.) and Ph.D. degrees.
Research
In 2018-2019, Tech researchers accounted for more than $20 million in sponsored research, funded from a wide variety of federal, state and private organizations, such as NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Nature Conservancy, and the National Science Foundation.
