Tine Thing Helseth to hold virtual performance at Tech on April 2

tine thing helsethTennessee Tech University's Center Stage presents Norwegian trumpet soloist Tine Thing Helseth in a special virtual music performance on Saturday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m.  The event will be streamed on the screen in Tech’s Wattenbarger Auditorium. 

Helseth was born in Oslo, Norway and studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music. She is the leader of an all-female brass ensemble, tenThing. 

She was named a "Superstar of Tomorrow" by BBC Music Magazine in 2011. 

Helseth has performed with orchestras including the Wiener Symphoniker, Beethoven Académie, Capella Cracoviensis, The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Radio Symphony Ljubljana, Oslo Camerata, Camerata Nordica, Württemberg Philharmonic, the Trondheim Soloists, Norwegian symphony orchestras, Norwegian Army bands, and other brass and wind ensembles. 

She has appeared at music festivals including Bergen International Festival, Kissinger Summer Festival and Usedomer Music Festival. 

Helseth has also performed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York City, Struthers Library Theatre in Warren, Pennsylvania, and Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.  

In April 2019 she toured the US for two weeks with her all-female brass group - tenTHING and among other locations they performed at the Empire Theatre in San Antonio, Texas. 

Helseth opened the memorial concert for the 2011 Norway attacks by playing trumpet from the roof of Oslo City Hall. 

She has appeared in the BBC Proms, performing with tenThing at the Cadogan Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London.  

She has received numerous awards in her career including the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, the Spellemannprisen, and the Kissinger Sommer Festival Luitpold Prize to name a few. 

Admission to a Center Stage is free, unless otherwise noted. The events are paid by student fees and open to the public with priority seating given to students.  Many guests provide additional educational opportunities for students through workshops or master classes during their residencies.
