‘Hollywood’ homecoming events await Tennessee Tech students and alumni
Tennessee Tech students, alums and Golden Eagle fans are preparing for homecoming festivities, celebrating the week with the theme ‘Hollywood Homecoming,’ leading up to a parade and football game on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Homecoming is a special time when everyone connected to the university students, alumni, fans and the community come together to celebrate the decades of traditions leading to the game.
There are many ways to get in the homecoming spirit. Organizations across campus compete at various events throughout the week and the women’s soccer team will be battling it out for a chance to win OVC championship on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.
Homecoming day will feature the parade, tailgating around Tucker Stadium, college and organization reunions and the crowning of Mr. and Miss Tennessee Tech and the Golden Eagles take on Lindenwood in the 1:30 p.m. homecoming game.
“Homecoming happens every year, and it’s a great event for family and friends that are a part of the Tennessee Tech and Cookeville community to get involved in!” coordinator of student activities and campus life Keisha Claybrooks said. “I look forward to homecoming because it’s an event that allows past and present golden eagles to connect!”
Saturday morning’s homecoming parade, going from Dixie Avenue and throughout campus, starts at 10:30 a.m. with Ellen Neufeldt as grand marshal.
Neufeldt received her bachelor’s degree in marketing and master’s degree in educational psychology and counselor education from Tech and her doctorate of education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. In 2019, Neufeldt became the fourth president of California State University San Marcos and immediately focused on engaging, interacting, listening and building relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community constituents. A champion of innovation and entrepreneurship, she oversaw the opening of CSUSM’s Innovation Hub, an on-campus home for meeting societal needs.
“As the 2022 recipient of the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumna Award, Ellen Neufeldt was the unanimous choice to lead this year’s homecoming parade as grand marshal,” Kelly Chambers, assistant director of the Crawford Alumni Center said. “Each year, this award is presented to someone who has achieved great success and instills pride in the university. Dr. Neufeldt has devoted her career to higher education and building relationships with students, and she credits Tech in many ways for preparing her to lead. We are proud of the work she’s doing at CSUSM and excited to have her back on campus for homecoming.”
Students, faculty, staff, alums and the community are encouraged to celebrate Tech’s homecoming at various events planned throughout the week and weekend.
