Wray served Tech continuously from 1991-2003 in several progressive roles, including annual fund director, alumni relations director, and development and marketing director for Athletics. He rejoined the university earlier this year with the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Prior to returning to the university, he worked with WCTE-PBS as the project manager for American Graduate, a public media campaign focusing on high school graduation rates, career and workforce training in schools and partnerships between education and economic development.
Before joining WCTE, Wray served at Zimmer Broadcasting, first as director of sales, ultimately becoming assistant general manager for the company.
Wray, a two-time Tech graduate, earned his bachelor s degree in English/journalism in 1981, followed by a master s degree in educational psychology and counselor education in 1985. He also holds a doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
His commitment to community involvement includes service and leadership roles in Cookeville s CityScape, Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, Clean Commission, Cookeville-Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Blue Cross Bowl, American Cancer Society, and Relay for Life.
Tech s Board of Trustees approved the creation of the chief of staff position at its August meeting. This position reports directly to the president and will play an active role in assisting the president and the university in crucial initiatives.
Wray s appointment was approved unanimously by the Executive Committee of the board at a specially called meeting held yesterday and is effective immediately.
