The ensemble submitted a video recording of its competition piece in December and was selected to compete in the small ensemble category. They competed against 29 top-rated music schools including Baylor University, New England Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and University of Michigan among others.
The Tech ensemble was the only ensemble selected in the entire state of Tennessee.
Ensemble members include Alex Wilborn, Alex Netherton, Taylor Robinson, Kendra Harris, Andrew Swortzel and Chris Doty. Alex Wilborn was also selected to compete in the undergraduate solo competition.
For more than 25 years, the National Trumpet Competition has provided performing opportunities, master classes, exhibition concerts, historic and commercial exhibits and an educational, supportive environment for nearly 3,000 students. To date, these students have represented 40 states as well six foreign countries.
