Tennessee Tech University trumpet professor Charles Decker will present a faculty recital Jan. 28 with pianist Joy Rachor.

The program will feature works for solo trumpet in chamber music settings. Decker will share the stage with Tennessee Tech music faculty and trumpet students.

It is a pleasure to share the stage with so many fine musicians playing music in such different settings ranging from solo trumpet and organ to music for 13 trumpeters, said Decker.

The program will open with Joseph Turrin s Caprice for trumpet and continue with The Best of the Baroque, a piece composed of the most famous melodies of the era including the Good Morning America and Masterpiece Theatre themes.

TTU music professor mezzo-soprano Diane Pulte will join Decker for two works, including Animal Ditties, which sets Ogden Nash s limericks to music.

The faculty Brass Arts Quintet will perform two solo trumpet works arranged by Decker: music by Russian composer Alexander Arutunian and the American icon Leonard Bernstein.

To close the program, Decker and the Tennessee Tech trumpet ensemble will perform Leroy Anderson s Rakes of Mallow, Bernstein s Candide Overture and Ronald LoPresti s Heralding.

The concert continues the yearlong Tennessee Tech Trumpet Festival concert series featuring solo and ensemble performances by faculty and students.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Wattenbarger Auditorium on Tennessee Tech s campus. It is free and open to the public.

Wattenbarger Auditorium is in the Bryan Fine Arts Building, 1150 N. Dixie Ave.
