Cooperative Education Program Guidelines

As of July 1, 2019

Students electing to enter the Cooperative Education Program at Tennessee Tech must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum overall 2.0 GPA (GPA must be maintained while participating in the program)
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Must have completed two grading cycles at the university
  • Must attend a Co-op Meetup information session (scheduled each semester and listed in Handshake Events)
  • Must complete the Gold (freshman/sophomore) or Purple (junior/senior/graduate) Career Readiness Certification Program
  • Complete a Co-op Orientation appointment through Career Development
  • Maintain enrollment in the appropriate co-op course throughout the entire co-op assignment, including summer semesters

* Registration for courses will be automatically processed by the Career Development Office.

As of January 1, 2024, Disney College Internship Program will no longer be processed through the Cooperative Education Program.  Students will need to contact their academic advisor within their respective department to identify if the internship will qualify according to the departmental internship requirements. Please ensure you have done this prior to making any commitments with Disney.

 

Engineering Eligibility Requirements

College of Engineering students electing to enter the Cooperative Education Program at Tennessee Tech must meet the following requirements, as well as the

    • Have a minimum overall 2.0 GPA (GPA must be maintained before and while participating in the program)
    • Be in good academic standing
    • Must have completed two grading cycles at the university
    • Must have completed the Engineering Milestone Course listed below for their major
    • Must attend a Co-op Meetup information session (scheduled each semester and listed in Handshake Events)
    • Must complete the Gold (freshman/sophomore) or Purple (junior/senior/graduate) Career Readiness Certification Program
    • Complete a Co-op Orientation appointment through Career Development
    • Maintain enrollment in the appropriate co-op course throughout the entire co-op assignment, including summer semesters

Old Curriculum: ECE 2010 — Intro to ECE or ECE 2110 — Intro to Digital Systems
Computer Science CSC 1310 — Data Structures and Algorithms
Engineering Technology MET 2000 — Occupational Safety or MET 2065 — Metal Manufacturing Technology
Mechanical Engineering ME 2330 — Dynamics
Nuclear Engineering CEE 2110 — Statics

 

Milestone Course Confirmation

When the student is applying for the co-op position, upon request from the student, the respective College of Engineering academic advisor will check to confirm that the student has completed the milestone course. The student will be directed to necessary steps prior to the orientation appointment.

 

Masters/PhD Student Requirements

  • Have a cumulative overall 2.0 GPA at the time of Employer Co-op Offer and through the beginning of the co-op assignment with the employer
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Must have completed one grading cycle at the university
  • Must attend a Co-op Meetup
  • Complete a Co-op Orientation appointment through Career Development
  • Maintain enrollment in the appropriate co-op course throughout the entire co-op assignment, including summer semesters
