Dear Board Members,

Ashraf Islam portraitIt is with great pleasure that I share with you that one of our esteemed alums, Ashraf Islam, has donated a gift of $3 million in support of a new building for the College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech. This raises our total funds received or pledged to-date to nearly $8 million.

Ashraf Islam is a 1968 Civil Engineering graduate from Tech and was vice president of the International Student Association and chair of the International Fair.

He currently serves as co-chair of CONSOR Engineers, LLC, which was formed from a merger with AIA Engineers, Ltd, founded by Mr. Islam in 1985. Prior to the merger, AIA had six branches in Texas and additional branches in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Toronto, and Bangladesh. The newly formed firm combines a 90-year legacy and expands the company’s service offerings and geographies to 46 offices in 27 states and Canada. CONSOR employees 900 people, including 120 professional engineers.

Mr. Islam has been a long-time supporter of Tech, currently serving on the TTU Foundation and was previously on the Advisory Board for Civil & Environmental Engineering. He established the Asia Khatun Civil & Environmental Engineering Endowed Scholarship and was named TTU Engineer of Distinction in 2020. Mr. Islam and his wife Nasren have five children: Shafi, Zina, Alicia, Amann, and Alaan.

Mr. Islam’s gift will enable the college to offer enhanced innovative features to educate and equip our students to succeed in this changing, collaborative world. The new building will be an anchor for the College of Engineering for decades to come.

I want to thank Mr. Islam and the many other donors who are, and will be, making this possible. We still have further to go, but I continue to be amazed at how much our supporters are willing to contribute their time, talents and treasure to the success of future engineers from Tennessee Tech. On behalf of the college, we thank all of you.

Wings Up!
