Celebrate all things purple and gold at Wings Up Weekend
Tennessee Tech University’s Wings Up Weekend is a celebration of all things purple and gold, and this year there is something for everyone. This year’s Wings Up Weekend will be April 8-10.
“Much like homecoming brings everyone to campus each fall, Tech designed Wings Up Weekend as an opportunity for alumni and the local community to come together each spring to engage with students, faculty and staff and enjoy our beautiful campus,” said Brooke Fleenor, events coordinator for Tech’s Crawford Alumni Center.
Kicking the weekend off will be an artist talk and reception at the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery on Thursday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. for the current exhibiting artist.
For Friday, April 8, the events featured include the Civil and Environmental Scholarship Fund golf outing, with registration ending on April 1; the Tech Bachelor of Fine Arts student exhibition reception and awards ceremony at the Appalachian Center for Craft; and the Tech Players production of AIRNESS at the Backdoor Playhouse.
Then Saturday, April 9, will be filled with softball games, a NASA Celebration, a Purple and Gold football scrimmage, a soccer game, Window on the World and more.
The Window on the World (WOW) event will be on the Roaden University Center’s South Patio from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free to the community. This event celebrates cultural diversity and harmony where participants are invited to learn and understand more about our world and its people. Admission to WOW is free, but varying costs are associated with food and vendors. More information and a full event list can be found at https://www.tntech.edu/centerstage/wow/index.php.
The Cookeville History Museum is showcasing What We Were Wearing: A Timeline of Cookeville Fashions, an exhibit that features select pieces from the Tennessee Tech School of Human Ecology’s Historic Macindoe Costume Collection. The exhibit is open at the museum Tuesday, April 5, through Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.
