Tennessee Tech University's School of Art, Craft & Design will host the 26th annual
Celebration of Craft on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event takes place
at the Appalachian Center for Craft, Tech's satellite campus in Smithville, and is
free for guests of all ages.
Studios will be open to the public, offering demonstrations in blacksmithing, metals,
glass, clay, wood and fiber. Craft Center faculty, artists in residence and students
will demonstrate techniques including raku firing clay, woodturning, flameworking
glass, floor loom weaving and more. Kids are invited to create and explore a variety
of hands-on craft activities including suncatchers, wind socks, straw weavings and
cupcake flowers.
The main stage under the big tent will feature jazz, bluegrass and string quartet
performances by musicians from Tech's School of Music. Ample outdoor seating is provided
for guests, including tables for guests to gather and enjoy local eats from food vendors.
This year’s food vendors are Country Boys Gourmet, Travelin Tom’s, Habibi’s Mexican
Kitchen and BUNZ on the RUN. Sausage, sandwiches, kettle corn, pork rinds, tacos,
coffee and more will be available.
During the event, all handcrafted items in the Craft Center Gallery will be available
for purchase with a special 25% discount. Visitors can also purchase fine art and
craft from the student art sale.
