Submitting Exams
Exams are submitted via RegisterBlast: http://www.registerblast.com/tntech/professor/login.
- » Submission Deadline
You must submit exam information in RegisterBlast at least 72 hours before the testing window begins. You may always submit them much further in advance; some faculty submit all class exams before the semester starts.
Why 72 hours?
This allows us time to process the exam and address any questions we have about your submission. This also factors in time for the students to schedule their exam.
What if my exam isn't ready at least 72 hours in advance?
We suggest giving your course exam in iLearn. If you give your exam in iLearn, you can alter the content of the iLearn exam anytime before 7am on the first day of the exam window. Please see iLearn Exams for more information.
- » Submission Process Timeline
Once you complete your submission in RegisterBlast, we process your submission so students can schedule for your exam. The typical turnaround time for processing is approximately 48 hours, but it can vary.
After your submission, we review the content to make sure we fully understand how to proctor your exam correctly. If we have any questions, we will email you from tlc@tntech.edu.
The fewer questions we have, the faster we process your exam. The faster you respond to our emails, the faster we process your exam. Our processing turnaround time also depends on how many exams we are proctoring when you submit. The number of exams we proctor can vary on any given day between 0 and 200+.
The most common questions we have are about allowable materials. If you say they are allowed a formula sheet and do not list any additional details, we will ask you what size of paper, handwritten or typed, single- or double-sided, etc.
Typically, we have more questions for professors who haven't used us before. Once professors use us regularly, their submission generate very few questions.
- » RegisterBlast enrollment for first-time users
If you've never used RegisterBlast before, you will need to complete this one-time registration.
It may take 24-48 hours to process first-time enrollments, and you cannot submit exams until this process is complete. If you think you might use TLC Testing in the future, we encourage you to do this one-time registration as soon as possible to avoid submission delays.
- » Submit an Exam
- Login to RegisterBlast: http://www.registerblast.com/tntech/professor/login (you may want to bookmark this site)
- You will see the Submissions page. Click on the blue + icon near the top right corner
- Complete your exam submission by carefully following all directions to minimize exam processing time so that your students can schedule sooner. If you don't follow directions, we will ask you for corrections and clarifications, which slows down the process. If you would like to make an appointment to sit down with a TLC Testing employee and get help submitting an exam, please email tlc@tntech.edu.
- Exam Name: it's important that you name your exam as specified in the RegisterBlast instructions. This standardized naming is necessary for our procedures
- Exam Group: choose the correct group; if you do not see the correct group, email tlc@tntech.edu
- Start/End date: this is what we call the exam window; please see the timelines page for suggested exam windows based on the number of students and the time of the semester
- Time Restriction: you can choose the dates but not specific times; anything entered into this field will be ignored
- Allotted Minutes: only list your regular exam time and not the extended time; RegisterBlast automatically adds the extended time for students who have that accommodation (Example: Your exam is one hour, and the student gets 2x extended time. Please submit your exam as one hour long, not two hours long. If you submit it as two hours long, RegisterBlast will give them four hours because it automatically calculates the 2x extended time.)
- File Management: upload your paper/pencil test and any other attachments that must be printed and provided to students
- Type of test: select the appropriate option
- Exam Password: this only applies if it is a computer/iLearn exam; see more information passwords on our iLearn page
- Computer-Based Access Instructions: we need to know where the online exam is located, like iLearn, a website, etc.
- Paper/Pencil Class List: we need a list of all your students' names for paper/pencil exams because each student gets an envelope with an exam in it labeled with their name. We suggest copying and pasting your classlist from iLearn or Banner, and you may want to keep that list for future submissions if you'll use us more than once.
- Authorized Materials: these are the materials students are allowed to use while taking your exam. Be as specific as possible so we can proctor your exam correctly. We will email you if we have questions about what is allowed, which slows exam processing.
- Authorized Pick-Up People: if you need to pick up paper/pencil exams, scrap paper, formula sheets, or any other physical items, please list the NON-STUDENT people who are authorized to pick this up; you should list yourself, and you may list others in your department you will allow to pick up your materials. Note: whoever picks up your materials will need a photo ID to preserve test security and academic integrity
- Student Email Addresses: if you enter your students' email addresses, they are the only ones who will see your exam in RegisterBlast when they schedule their exam. If you leave this blank, any student could schedule your exam. However, they still won't have access to your iLearn or a paper exam because they won't be in your class list.
- Check the acknowledgments
- Additional Details: enter any additional details you want to supply to help us proctor your exam

- You will see a green confirmation bar at the top of the page once you have successfully submitted your exam.
Edits (other than attaching a file) can only be made to the exam submission while the exam is in “Unapproved” status in our system. Once the exam has been processed in our system and students can schedule, edits (other than attaching a file) must be emailed to tlc@tntech.edu. This can include edits to the exam window, allotted minutes, additional exam instructions, and adding students to the class list and email list.
