Transfer Orientation FAQs

 

⪢ Is transfer orientation required? I already registered for classes. (top of page)

Yes, all new transfer students admitted for the Summer or Fall term must either attend one of the on-campus Transfer Orientation sessions or complete online Transfer Orientation. If choosing an on-campus session, it is important for students to select a session which they are able to attend the entire orientation program.

⪢ Can I bring a guest with me to Transfer Orientation? (top of page)

Yes, we encourage the student's parent/guardian to come with them to on-campus Transfer Orientation. Currently there is a $15 per guest attendance fee. Due to limited seating, students may only register a maximum of 1 guest.

⪢ I am a new transfer student starting Tech in the Spring semester... (top of page)

If you are an incoming transfer student starting Tech in the Spring semester then you will complete Spring Orientation. Students admitted for the Spring term will receive information about Spring Orientation in mid-late November. For more information, please visit our Spring Orientation page.

⪢ How do I get advised and registered for classes? (top of page)

New transfer students admitted for the Fall term can either get advised during their on-campus Transfer Orientation or can contact their academic department/advisor to schedule an appointment prior to their on-campus orientation session.

Advisement for the Summer and Fall terms begins the first of April and continues through August 16, 2023. Students must be admitted before making an advising appointment.

⪢ How much does it cost to attend an on-campus Transfer Orientation? (top of page)

Currently, Transfer Orientation is free for admitted transfer students. There is a $15 guest attendance fee (up to 1 guest per student).

The following payment methods are accepted for guest attendance: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards and debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo.

⪢ What should I do if I'm not feeling well the day of my on-campus Transfer Orientation session?

Please stay home and contact the Office of New Student & Family Programs at nsfp@tntech.edu. We will follow up with you regarding any next steps or adjustments needed to reschedule your orientation session.

⪢ When do I move into my residence hall if I'm living on campus? (top of page)

All transfer students will be able to move in to their assigned residence hall or on-campus apartment during the time designated by the Office of University Housing and Residential Life.

If you have questions about Residential Life or move-in dates, please email reslife@tntech.edu and include your Tech ID Number, Full Legal Name, and Contact Information. For more information, visit the Residential Life website or call (931) 372-3414.

⪢ How do I reschedule my on-campus orientation? (top of page)

If you need to reschedule your orientation session, you may do so by logging into the reservation system and select the next available session. Due to limited occupancy, we encourage students to make plans accordingly and attend their scheduled session. You may also contact the Office of New Student & Family Programs at (931) 372-3245 to make reservation changes over the phone.

⪢ I'm admitted for summer/fall, but don't want to start until Spring... (top of page)

Students who no longer plan on attending Tech for their admitted term should contact the Office of Admissions to change their semester or update their decision to attend. To do so, please complete the Update Application Form (click here). For other questions, you may contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@tntech.edu. Please include your Tech ID Number and Full Legal Name.

⪢ I no longer plan on attending Tech. What do I need to do? (top of page)

Students who no longer plan on attending Tech should complete the Update Application Form (click here). If you are unable to access this form please call the Office of Admissions (931) 372-3888 or the Office of New Student & Family Programs (931) 372-3245 and we will be able to assist you with your decision.

⪢ Will I need to pay my tuition after completing orientation (top of page)

Students will need to confirm their schedules and pay their tuition/fees by 11:59pm (central) on August 15, 2023 for the Fall 2023 semester. Due to the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) and the Tennessee Governor's budget approval process, fees are not assigned for the upcoming academic year until after the new fiscal year begins (July 1).

For more information regarding how to confirm enrollment and pay tuition & fees visit the Bursar's Office website. Students who do not pay & confirm by the above deadlines will have their schedules purged and will be required to re-register for the upcoming semester.
